NBR 479 1890s St. Margaret's MPD

NBR 479 1890s St. Margaret's MPD

North British Railway Drummond 'M' or 'Abbotsford' class 4-4-0 No. 479. Built by Neilson & Co. of Glasgow in July 1877, rebuilt at Cowlairs by Holmes in 1902 and withdrawn in December 1923.

This 1890s portrait at St. Margaret's MPD in Edinburgh shows Dugald Drummond's 'Abbotsford' class No. 479 in its original condition prior to Matthew Holmes' rebuild in 1902. I have already posted an early 1900s photo taken at Perth showing 479 in its rebuilt version, so you may wish to view both images to see the changes that Holmes made.

Restored from an original period 8"x10" print.
