North British Railway Wheatley 2-4-0 No. 38. Built at Cowlairs in 1869 and rebuilt there by Holmes in 1893, withdrawal date unknown.

The origins and demise of this unique double-framed 2-4-0 are hazy, other than it was the only one of its class. In this circa 1900 image taken at Perth's NBR shed, the locomotive is unusually scruffy for the era. Note the brake cylinder between the driving wheels. Restored from an original period 8"x10" print.
