Ian Townend says "Has Gill sans cab and smokebox nos and retains LMS on the tender. When renumbered in Sep 1948 it may initially have had block style nos on the cab the change to Gill sans possibly occurring in Oct 1949. The loco is still in its LMS 1946 lined black livery which it retained until painted green in Dec 1951"
