46203 Princess Margaret Rose was renumbered in May 1948 with Gill Sans smokebox door and cab side numbers on otherwise 1946 style LMS livery. It remained so until repainted BR standard blue in 1951 and by the time it was photographed alongside the Oxford Canal at Brinklow in 1949 or 1950 it looked somewhat scruffy. Although its boiler was still domeless and had no extra first ring washout plugs, new outside cylinders without sighting plugs had been fitted.
Ian Townend adds "When renumbered in 1948 loco carried LMS 1946 lined black with LMS style scroll and seriff smokebox number plate and LMS block style 10 inch cabside nos. without maroon lining. The tender retained 14 inch block lettering edged with maroon as per 1946 livery. The change to Gill sans BR Nos seem to have been cabside first and later the smokebox number, these changes probably occurring in 1949"
