69370 1956-09 Gorton MPD
Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway designed Parker 'N5/2' class 0-6-2 Tank No. 69370. Built by Beyer Peacock Ltd. of Manchester in March 1901 as GCR No. 946 and withdrawn in September 1960.
The prototype of the 130 Parker 'N5s' was the first British locomotive to be fitted with a Belpaire firebox in 1891. This lovely portrait of 69370 was taken at Gorton MPD in September 1956 and is only marred by the ugly 'flowerpot' chimney that were replaced by the LNER. The previous and elegant GCR Robinson-designed versions being removed during works visits.
