Laira have turned out their 1021 County of Montgomery in fine style on Easter Saturday, 31st March 1956 and is heading through Mutley cutting towards the tunnel after having just come on to the 2 pm departure from Plymouth, Paddington bound. A couple of young mums watch their offspring by their front doors and it all makes a rather nice picture in what was then a splendid location , now ruined by a car park extending from where Peter Kerslake was standing down to those railings on the left , which believe it or not are still there today! The load looks heavy for an unassisted 'County' with seven coaches visible, and 1021 is now in its new green livery. A 'Castle' was restricted to eight coaches unassisted over the South Devon banks between here and Newton Abbot but I am not sure of the limit for a 'County'.
