The scrap line with 3662, 4700, 5940 and 4960. The latter still coaled but withdrawn the previous September.

Condemned locomotives destined for the scrap yards of South Wales were often held at such locations as this at Bristol St. Philip's Marsh and also at Gloucester whilst arrangements were made for their onward movement to Barry and the like .
Opened in 1910 Bristol's St. Philip's Marsh Depot, with its twin roundhouses, had been the principal centre for freight locomotives in the area, with an allocation of Pannier Tanks, 2-8-0 freight engines, a "4700" heavy freight engine or two, and a number of heavy 2-8-2 tank locomotives on its books in its heyday, in addition to a number of Swindon built Stanier class "8F's" being sent there from June of 1954.
This Depot at St. Philip's Marsh closed in June, 1964 when its remaining locomotives were moved to the Midland's Barrow Road Depot until the end of Western Region steam came about in late 1965.
