4950 1950s Dainton
Down express with 7004
A fine portrait of 4950 "Patshull Hall " which was a Laira engine in the mid ' fifties assisting Castle 7004 on the ascent of the one in thirty six gradient of Dainton bank , and heading down to Plymouth .
It's not unusual to see a Laira engine as pilot and usually was attached on such westward bound workings at Newton Abbot in order to work home.
What makes this view so attractive is that the steam and smoke are blowing away from our cameraman and not obscuring either of the two locomotives.
