5955 1959-09-27 South Marston near Swindon

A nice selection of NPCS including a LMS Scenery Van, GWR Fruit D and a LMS 42ft GUV leading

South Marston was about a mile east of Highworth Junction .

Clearly in new colours and fresh from overhaul at Swindon Works , 5955 " Garth Hall " may well be on on a " Running In " duty with an interesting and varied rake of express freight stock before she returns to her home shed following her spell at Swindon.
I recall 5955 being towed as a " dead" engine through Gloucester on 21st . June , 1965 following her earlier withdrawal from her then home at Bristol Barrow Road , on her way to the South Wales scrap yards at Risca in company with 4992 " Crosby Hall " and 44135 , the trio being hauled by 3864.
