7904 1965-02-11 Gloucester Central

The final year for Western Region steam sees a folorn looking 7904 , " Fountains Hall " , in better times allocated to 81A , Old Oak Common but now minus smokebox door numberplate and nameplates , running eastwards through Gloucester Central with a freight from the South Wales line including a number of sheeted over wagons , contents unknown.
The lengthy covered footbridge linked this station with the former Midland Region station at Eastgate , which didn't last as long in service as Central.
Steam workings of freights on the South Wales line through Gloucester Central provided an interesting and varied mix of Motive Power even at this late date , with Midland Region Standard 9F 's and 8F 's sharing the rosters with Western Region " Halls " , " Granges " and " Manors " and others , but it all ended late in 1965 when Severn Tunnel and Newport Depots finally closed to steam.
