4920 1950s Churston

4920 1950s Churston

With an Up express - 14xx on Brixham train in bay

Funds raised by the sale of prints of Westcountry artist Don Breckon's fine painting of 4920 , " Dumbleton Hall " went towards the engine's preservation and subsequent restoration at the Buckfastleigh Works of the Dart Valley Railway as it was then known.
Interestingly , it was on this line , further down at its Kingswear terminus , that the engine was portrayed in that painting and 4920 has in this photograph at Churston worked up from Kingswear heading eastwards towards Newton Abbot , with the Brixham single coach on the left .
Before preservation , and in its last days , 4920 was the oldest surviving " Hall " in service .
