6973 1961-08-26 Exeter Central

Modified Hall class 4-6-0 No 6973 Bricklehampton Hall enters Exeter Central with a diverted Paddington to Penzance express on August 26, 1961.
Peter Kerslake says "A most unusual event to see a Hall running into Exeter Central on Southern Region metals, and I wonder what had caused the major diversion on the Western Region's main line. This working will have to reverse after it drops down the 1 in 37 grade to St. David's in order to head down to Plymouth and 6973 wil be facing the wrong way on the wrong end of the train so Exeter Depot will have another engine at the ready!"
