Modified Hall class 4-6-0 No 6973 Bricklehampton Hall takes water at Exeter Central with a diverted Paddington to Penzance express on August 26, 1961.
Peter Kerslake says "I wonder what happened when 6973 reached Exeter St. Davids and if it was taken off the wrong end of its train and turned on the Exeter turntable before running to Plymouth at the correct end of its train.It would not have taken the Southern line via North Dartmoor to Plymouth as it would have been too heavy for Meldon Viaduct at Okehampton."
