The history of railways certainly has its fair share of strangeness! A little-known Belgian line was the Malines & Terneuzen Railway. Some directors of the L&NWR had financial interests in the M&TR. Thus it was, that in 1888 an order was placed with Crewe to supply four Ramsbottom 'DX' class 0-6-0s to Belgium. With its new number adorning its chimney, M&TR No. 11 was originally L&NWR No. 410 and was built at Crewe in June 1868. It survived somehat modified for local requirements, until 1935. Who knew?
