The fine ornamental brickwork adorning Belfast Queens Quay MPD looks to be in rather better condition in June 1954 than the pair of ex-Belfast & County Down Railway 4-4-2 Tanks! They had become UTA stock in 1949. Nos. 219 (l.) and 218 (r.) were built as a class of 12 locomotives by Beyer Peacock over a 20-year period from 1901-21. All ex BNCR steam locos were withdrawn by 1956 but they were all out of service by 1953 except 229 which ran until 1956. Both 218 and 219 in the photo here were stopped in 1951.
