GWR 2251 0-6-0 No 3209 at Portmadoc.
Peter Kerslake says "Situated at the western end of Portmadoc station the two road locomotive shed is just visible in this view. It was a sub-shed of Machynlleth but with a substantial allocation of its own and at one time had fourteen sets of enginemen based there before its engines and its men were transferred to Pwllheli.
Brick built and with its original Welsh slate roof replaced by asbestos, the shed was very close to the nearby houses so noise and smoke had to be kept to a minimum.
As well as being an important passenger station between Pwllheli and Barmouth there was plenty of both loaded and empty freight traffic centred round Portmadoc with the nearby large granite quarry and an explosives factory both to the east on the main line.
3209 was a Worcester engine in the mid 'fifties but moved to Oswestry and the Cambrian in June 1958."
