5089 1956-04-02 Aller Junction
My 1956 shedbook shows that 5089, "Westminster Abbey" was allocated to Newton Abbot at the date of my photograph taken at Aller Junction on 2nd. April 1956 with the locomotive heading eastwards on what is undoubtably a Paddington bound working, from either the Kingswear line or from Plymouth. I have been lucky with the steam, pressing the camera release at just the right moment, which makes for a nice picture, the engine not being obscured, and a day spent at this location would yield a good number of pictures, with workings to and from Kingswear as well as those heading down to, and up from my home at Plymouth. 5089 was transferred to Wolverhampton Stafford Road two years later, thereafter ending its days at the nearby former Midland shed at Oxley when Stafford Road closed.
