9017 1956-05-12 Cardiff General
GWR Dukedog 4-4-0 No. 9017 at Cardiff General on May 12, 1956.
Away from its usual haunts, it was working the Gloucestershire Railway Society South Wales Rail Tour.
Peter Kerslake says "Constructed as 3217 from the frames of Bulldog 3425 and the boiler, cab and fittings from Duke 3282 Chepstow Castle, 9017 was allocated to Machynlleth at this date but was withdrawn in October 1960 from Oswestry. It never carried the designated Earl of Berkeley nameplates whilst in GWR service but following private purchase and restoration by the Bluebell Railway the name which had been used on Castle 5060 was given to 3217."
