9017 1955c Machynlleth
Peter Kerslake says " Dukedog " 9017 looks as though she may be out of service here at Machynlleth Motive Power Depot with that wagon stabled ahead of her , but she survived until October of 1960 when she was one of the last two of her class remaining in action on the Cambrian network and working from her home Depot at Oswestry , sharing that distinction with 9014.
This image shows clearly how the tender was wider than the cab , and 9017 does not have the square sandboxes with which a number of " Dukedogs " were equipped , and she retains the original style of boiler without a separate water top feed , a later feature of a number of the class.
9017 was destined to be the only " Dukedog " to be saved for preservation , and what a stroke of good fortune it was that some one ensured that happened ! "
