9013 1952-04-13 Aberystwyth

Although officially allocated to Machynlleth "Dukedog" 9013 was at that Depot's large sub-shed at Aberystwyth. It was one of 16 of the 22 survivors of the class allocated to the parent Depot in the mid-fifties. The locomotives had been long associated with both passenger and freight workings over the Cambrian network, but as increased loadings of the longer distance passenger workings made double heading necessary the class were gradually replaced on those rosters by the more powerful "Manor" 4-6-0s, the largest Western Region class permitted to work the Cambrian system.
The former Cambrian Railways' shed had been replaced by the Great Western Railway in 1938/9 and included a new 55 foot turntable falthough that was quickly taken out for use elsewhhere and was replaced by an additional line to form a turning triangle in 1940. When the shed finally closed to main line steam in April 1965 it was taken over by the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge railway.
