Peter Kerslake says "Dukedog 9009 had been painted in lined black livery in 1949 and was withdrawn in July 1957 after twenty years in service.
This picture shows the square sandboxes fitted to some, but not all of the class, and 9009 still has its original boiler which was later replaced with one incorporating a separate water top feeds."
