9015 1960-09-11 Swindon

This interesting view shows clearly one of the unusual elbow shaped non standard cab widows which " Dukedog " 3215 , later becoming 9015 , inherited from donor " Duke " class numbered 3262 together with the outward turned cabsides when this engine was constructed at Swindon in October of 1937 .
Originally allocated , but never actually carrying the name " Earl of Clancarty " 3215 was not one of the initial thirteen of the class that actually got their nameplates and she never became named , whilst the initial thirteen that did actually carry "Earl " class nameplates had them removed in 1937 when the newly built " Castles " took those names from the " Dukedogs " , it being considered that the "Castles "were a more appropriate class to bear the names of the Noble Lords !
" Earl of Clancarty " was accordingly applied to " Castle " 5058 , one of our batch at Laira.
