Seen in ex-works condition, some weeks after after its March 1968 arrival at Bedlay Colliery, No 9 was originally a Wemyss Coal Co locomotive bought from Hudswell Clark in 1909 (works no 895). It is seen drawing a heavy load of coking coal destined for Ravenscraig steelworks, Motherwell along the 3/4 mile branch linking Bedlay Colliery to the BR exchange sidings at Leckethill.
