No 11 1968-06-19 Killoch Colliery

Killoch was a modern pit located at Ochiltree, Ayrshire (MR 476203), quite near Barony Colliery. Coal production commenced in 1960 and the mine closed in 1987, putting 2000 men out of work. In 1965 it had become the first Scottish pit to produce 1 million tons in a year. At the time of this photo it was still highly productive but the site was the preserve of three diesel shunters. The steam loco (NCB No 11 West Ayr Area) was spare but not used. This was AB 1442/1919 which unusually was fitted with dumb buffers.
