68677 1959-07 York Clifton Carriage Sidings
In the 20th century steam era, visiting York was guaranteed to reveal a host of ex-NER Thomas and Wilson Worsdell 'J71s' and 'J72s' covering a variety of essential station and yard pilot duties. The small shed provided at Clifton carriage sidings, just to the North of the station is a July 1959 scene for this excellent portrait. Built in December 1898, withdrawal came in October 1961 - a not untypical six decades of service!
