5657 1955-07-12 Port Talbot

On a set of ex LNWR pull push motor coaches, I believe these had different control gear to GWR locos and therefore would be running as standard coaches - the 56xx is not auto fitted anyway. There is a GWR diesel railcar drawing into the other platform.

Peter Kersklake says "A busy scene here at Port Talbot, on the east coast of Swansea Bay well recorded from the footbridge with "Taffy Tank" 5657 working a secondary passenger duty in July of 1955 on the line between Neath to the north and Bridgend to the south.
Ideally suited to, and designed for such duties as this, Mr. Collett's "Taffy Tanks" had been introduced in 1924, the class eventually totalling two hundred and lasting in service until 1966 when 5605 was the last to be condemned.
The Railcar is of interest, and it would have been good to know which one it is, and what service it is operating, as Newport Pill, Swansea's Landore, Cardiff's Canton and Carmarthen were all Welsh depots having Raicars on their respective allocations at about this time."
