6687 1962-08-12 Swindon Works

6687 1962-08-12 Swindon Works

With a classmate already unidentifiable and 5758.

Peter Kerslake says "There is still much left of "Taffy Tank" 6687 here at Swindon Works in Augst of 1962, the year during which she had been condemned in company with three others of her class, the first casualties, with 6687 being the first of the later 1927 series to be withdrawn so there must have been a reason for her early demise.
One of her sisters is behind, doubtless 5682 which was photographed partially cut up on this particular day in the book 'BR steaming through the sixties Volume 16' by Defiant Publications (if anyone can confirm this identity I would be grateful). 6687 still retains her smokebox door numberplate and this view shows the massive combined inside cylinder block and smokebox saddle with its two valve head covers prodruding at its front face."
