6624 1961-08-06 Radyr
A splendid line up of " Taffy Tanks " captured on colour film on 6th . August of 1961 by a lucky cameraman here at Radyr Depot , a " Subshed " of 88A , which was Cardiff Cathays , and situated just north of Cardiff on the line to Pontypridd .
Sub sheds such as this avoided the need for locomotives working the Welsh valley lines to return to their principal Depot at the end of their working days , and here we have 6624 , 5683 , possibly 5648 and 6665 all in the sunlight , most probably on a weekend .
The little shed is remarkably well clear of the usual waste coal and ash , so often seen in these late years of steam , doubtless maintained by a loyal little workforce of local shedstaff and so different from the larger Depots .
6624 seen here on the left has the fully lined out green livery applied to some of the class from 1957 , and most unusually has two lamp brackets a her front end , one in the usual position on the smokebox door with a second still retained above the smokebox , this being the original one
