CR 723 1900s Perth (CR) MPD

Caledonian Railway McIntosh '721' or 'Dunalastair I' class 4-4-0 No. 723. Built at St. Rollox in February 1896 and named 'Victoria' until 1901. Withdrawn in July 1933 as LMS No. 14313.

The arrival in 1896 of John McIntosh's 'Dunalastair' class heralded a whole new era in the design and capability of British 4-4-0's. Suffice it to say, they were world-renowned and upgrades of the design (Parts II, III and IV) continued over the next 14 years totalling 65 locomotives. The last survivor (BR No. 54439) was not withdrawn until August 1958.

This scene is at Perth's Caledonian MPD circa 1902 and sees the locomotive in the superb deep royal blue livery.

Restored from an original period 8"x10" print.
