1364 1961-07-30 Swindon Works
With 1362, it's the end of the road for these two, although the one in between, numerically that is, was saved for preservation.
A most interesting image of two of the little " 1361 " class awaiting their respective fates at the hands of the cutters and their torches here at Swindon Works .
Both 1361 and 1364 had been Laira engines in happier times , spending their late years as shed pilots at their home shed , moving " dead " engines and fully loaded coal wagons in and around the complex before it all came to an end.
They would have doubtless been sharing this line on the Works " dump " with their sister 1363 if all had gone according to plan , but an accident whilst towing 1363 at the head of a line of condemned engines at Laira had earlier torn the draw hook away from its buffer beam thus rendering 1363 unfit for being towed to Swindon , and she was shunted back into Laira's Roundshed from where she was later purchased and saved , the only one to make it into preservation .
