6008 1956 Laira

6008 1956 Laira

Eleven in the morning at Laira shed on Sunday, 15th. April, 1956 and on its home shed 6008 has been re-coaled and prepared for its next call to duty, probably the following morning.
It is likely that 6008 has worked home fom Paddington overnight, probably on one of the three workings running via Bristol Temple Meads during the hours of darkness.
6008 has had two recent overhauls, a Heavy General at Swindon in October of the previous year, followed by a Light Casual at Old Oak workshops in January, 1956, and looks to be in good condition.
Transferred to Laira from Wolverhampton Stafford Road in June 1952 this engine was one of Laira's hard worked batch of " Kings", remaining there until displacement by the Diesels in 1958.
