6001 1954-03-07 Hemerdon
Peter Kerslake says "One of my better efforts of Old Oak's 6001 at the very summit of the 1 in 42 climb of Hemerdon Bank, the view not spoiled as was often the case by a grubby "Manor" or suchlike coupled ahead as a pilot over the banks to Newton Abbot. The train is the 2.p.m. Sunday working to Paddington. 6001's seven coach load is within the ten coach maximum for an unassisted "King" and a heavy restaurant car is clearly visible, second from the engine. It's still possible today to get a decent shot from this location although the banks are nowhere near as clear as they are in this view from Sunday, 7th. March, 1954."
