6010 1956 Plymouth Laira

6010 1956 Plymouth Laira

6010 drifts along past the estuary of the river Plym with the "distant " signal not cleared so the driver will be reducing speed as his train approaches Laira junction. The date is Wednesday, 25th. April, 1956 and 6010 is working home on the 1.30.p.m. from Paddington, due into Plymouth at 6.25.p.m. The line just visible on the extreme left of my photograph is part of the China Clay Line, running down from Lee Moor to Cattedown and worked in days past by horses hauling china clay from the Lee Moor china clay workings. This was a favourite route for an afternoon walk or cycle ride from Laira shed in thise happy days !
