GWR 14XX 0-4-2T No 1427, still with GWR on its tanks, waits to leave Ashburton with the auto train for Totnes on June 26, 1952.
Peter Kerslake says "One of the crew is just visible taking a break on the extreme left.
We can, of course, still travel on this delightful line between Totnes and Buckfastleigh but the line was cut in two when the A38 trunk road was rebuilt, and whether or not the section from Buckfastleigh to Ashburton will ever be reinstated is open to doubt although there have been recent attempts to revive it."
