1472 1964-09-21 Stroud
The auto coach is W237W. Whenever I visited Stroud it was a summers day and the platforms and stonework seemed bleached by the strong sunlight.
Peter Kerslake says "With an Auto coach attached for use as a "Push and Pull" working 1472 pauses here at Stroud in what was locally known as the "Golden Valley" at the head of a service running between Gloucester and Chalford, at the foot of Sapperton bank.
Mainstay of such workings for many years were Gloucester Horton Road's locomotives of this "1400" class and 1472 seen here lasted on such services until their very last day, namely the 31st. October of 1964 following which Gloucester's remaining survivors namely 1472, 1458 and 1453 joined the ranks of others of the class previously condemned and stored out of use at the nearby former Midland Region depot at Barnwood where locomotives en route to the breakers' yards were held awaiting their final journey down into South Wales."
