1421 1962-07-08 Marlow
This was almost certainly taken on Sunday 8 July 1962, the last day of steam operation of the Marlow Donkey. The loco was bulled up for the final weekend with the silvered buffers, hinges and handrails. In the preceding week 1445 had been used.
Peter Kerslake says "Little 1421 ended her days working from her then home Depot at Slough , being withdrawn in December of 1963 and after working this Marlow service .
This looks like a special day at Marlow , perhaps the last day of the branch line services as there are many well turned out enthusiasts on the platform .
In her earlier years 1421 had been allocated to a wide variety of Motive Power Depots , mainly in South Wales , but she also had a spell at Plymouth's Laira Depot and at Reading .
Her Welsh days had seen her allocated to Llantrisant , Ebbw Junction and Goodwick , working branch line services through the Welsh valleys so she enjoyed a varied thirty years in service.
Following closure of the Marlow branch to steam 1421 appears to have gone back to the Westcountry for a brief spell before being withdrawn in 1963 and has been recorded on the Hemyock milk services earlier that year, so was not withdrawn from Slough after all! "
