1445 1964 Gloucester

1445 1964 Gloucester

A delightful shot of Gloucester Horton Road with their 1445 on the coaling line , minus its smokebox door numberplate and probably after having worked the Chalford service earlier in the day and very late in the life of both the engine and those services.
1445 had been a longstanding member of her class allocated to Gloucester , where there were eight of these little engines in earlier times , working not only through the " Golden Valley " to Chalford , but also down to Sharpness and to Hereford on passenger services .
When all those services ended in November of 1964 little 1445 and the remaining five other members of her class at Horton Road were all withdrawn , a number going over to the adjacent former Midland Region Depot at Barnwood which , following its arlier closure , was used to store condemned locomotives , many of whch were passing through Gloucester on their way to the South Wales breakers '' yards.
