1453 1964-10-03 Gloucester Central

On the Chalford service; the 11:20 a.m. for Chalford sets off from Gloucester Central with 1453 in charge.
This service was terminated on Saturday , 31st. of that same month , and these little engines used on this service were all withdrawn at or about that time.
In addition to the Gloucester to Chalford services ending on Saturday the 31st. of October , 1964 this day also heralded the end of the sevices from Gloucester to Ross on Wye in addition to the workings between Berkeley Road and Sharpness .
The Chalford and Sharpness duties had , for some considerable time primarily been undertaken by the little 14XX class , a number of which had been allocated to Gloucester's Horton Road Motive Power Depot for such purposes , with 1458 and 1472 undertaking runs on that last day , whilst sister engine 1453 was on the Sharpness duty.
By the following January a number of the class were stored out of use at Gloucester's former Midland Region shed at Barnwood , including 1420 ( later to be preserved ) , 1444 , 1445 , 1453 , 1458 and 1472 , that location being used to hold many condemned engines , with its former allocation of Midland Region locomotives still in service having already been transferred over to the adjacent location at Horton Road.
