1453 1964-09-26 Berkeley Road
With Autotrailer W244W with the 8-15 service to Sharpness.
Berkeley Road , on the main Midland Region line from Bristol to Gloucester , was the junction of the branch down to Sharpness , a little community on the banks of the Severn , the line originally having crossed the river there by way of the Severn rail bridge and extending down into Wales before the bridge's destruction by an exploding barge on the night of the 25th . October of 1960 .
Now truncated at Sharpness , the line finally closed on 31st . October 1964 , just eight weeks or so after this view , and 1453 , in company with her five sister engines were all withdrawn from service at their Gloucester Horton Road Depot , a number being stored at the nearby Midland Depot at Barnwood.
Sadly , none of the six Gloucester members of the class were saved for presrvation.
