1419 1952 Fowey
Canopy repaint date is Sep 51 so this will be the early spring of 1952.
No passenger services now run down to Fowey , that little port in South Cornwall today just seeing china clay traffic , but this delightul image recalls day past with 1419 from 83E ., which was St . Blazey , in the typically well maintained and spotlessly clean Cornish station back in 1952.
Originally numbered 4819 when built at Swindon in 1932 this engine , in company with the others in the " 4800 to 4874" series , was renumbered when their original numbers were transferred to oil burning members of the " 2800 " class in 1946, the series thereafter being renumbered between 1400 and 1474.
The box behind the vacuum pipe on the front bufferbeam houses the Auto Train apparatus which enabled the locomotive to work on a " Push and pull " basis , turning facilities being rarely available at the termini of so many of the former Great Western branch lines.
