1427 1955 Brixham

In the mid. ' fifties Newton Abbot Motive Power Depot had four of the little " 1400 " class on its allocation , namely 1427 seen here in addition to 1439 , 1466 and 1470 the little engines working the Moretonhampstead branch in addition to the Brixham branch running down from its junction at Churston on the main line down to Kingswear .
Introduced by Mr. Collett in 1932 the original seventy five of the class were followed by a further twenty the following year , but the second batch did not have the Auto Train " Push and Pull " equipment fitted when built by Swindon as did the initial batch .
The original members of the class lasted in service until 1964/65 when 1453 , 1458 and 1472 were all condemned from their then home at Gloucester's Horton Road Depot , being stored out of service at the adjacent Barnwood Depot.
