1420 1956-08-11 Swindon Works
Destined to be one of the few of the class to escape the cutters' torch following withdrawal, 1420 had seen service at a variety of depots during her working lifetime , ranging from early days with the Great Western in Wales during the 1930's and 1940's until subsequent moves to Oxford and a spell at Exeter before withdrawal from Gloucester in late 1964, a location from where it worked the Stroud Valley and Sharpness services until they both closed in October that same year .
Following an overhaul at Worcester Works, and now preserved, 1420 worked down through Gloucester on a misty Sunday 17th October in company with 6435 and 7029 Clun Castle heading initially for Bristol Bath Road Depot where they were on display the following Saturday, 23rd October before 1420 and 6435 later went on to their new home at the Dart Valley Railway in South Devon."
