Ex-LNER Gresley 'B17/6' class 4-6-0 No. 61652 'Darlington'. Built at Darlington in Apr. 1936 as LNER No. 2852 and withdrawn in Sept. 1959. One of the delights of visiting Doncaster was to walk the mile or so south of the station to the running shed. Not only could this offer a multitude of classes on the depot but also locomotives in 'ex-works' condition waiting to be returned to their home MPDs. This was after a 'running in' turn (usually to Retford) to determine if any further attention was required. Specially welcome sights included the rarely seen Scottish allocated Pacifics and the Eastern Region 'Footballers' and 'Sandringhams' such as 'Darlington' captured here in May 1956.
