61643 1952 Boston

Ex-LNER Gresley 'B17' class 4-6-0 No. 61643 'Champion Lodge'. Built at Darlington in May 1935 as LNER No. 2843 and withdrawn in July 1958. The late Les Perrin was a renowned Lincolshire based railway photographer and captured scarce action images in a somewhat less-photographed region. Gresley's 'B17s' were an attractive, if somewhat flawed 4-6-0. They received memorable names of stately homes and football clubs in LNER territory. Here's a fine sight, as 'Champion Lodge' purposefully strides away from Boston on a lovely summer's day 1952.
