61628 1952-09 Doncaster plant

61628 1952-09 Doncaster plant

Location is the scrapping road at the Crimpsall End of Doncaster Plant Works.

Stripped of her nameplates and other fittings poor old 61628 " Harewood House " had the unhappy distinction of being the very first of her class to be condemned during the month of this remarkable view , namely September of 1962 , and I wonder what had prompted such an early withdrawal , some six years before the first of any more of her sisters ended their working lives , but I suspect that it must have been something drastic , perhaps cracked main frames.
Despite widespread use especially on the tightly timed express duties between Norwich and Liverpool Street the " B 17 's " were considered not to have fully lived up to their expectations and the introduction of the " Britannias " in 1951 saw them reduced to less demanding duties in their final years .
