73164 1964-09 Bromsgrove

Peter Kerslake says "The Stationmaster's house is just visible behind the footbridge here at Bromsgrove and the steep gradient of the Lickey bank and the climb ahead to the summit at Backwell is so very evident ahead of 73164 with its injector open and feeding the boiler as its driver opens wide the regulator and with the black exhaust indicating that its fireman is seemingly still shovelling coal despite the safety valves having lifted.
There will be a banking engine taken on here at Bromsgrove working hard at the rear, and this view shows how the down platform has been cut back to accomodate the down platform road where it diverges from the through road in the centre.
There would doubtless have been many contacts made by descending engines with the platform edge here in past years as they hurtled down the incline and into the platform with brakes fully applied!"
