1000 1920s York South MPD
Ex-North Eastern Railway T.W.Worsdell '290' (LNER 'J77') class 0-6-0 Tank No. 1000. Built at York in October 1900 and withdrawn in May 1951 still as LNER No. 8433.
The North Eastern Railway was always looking for ways to re-purpose its older locomotive classes. Several of the renowned Fletcher 'BTP' 0-4-4 Tanks were therefore candidates for 'renewal' and 40 of them were rebuilt in 1900-4 at York's Queen Street Locomotive Works becoming class 'J77'. This was to be the last time York was to be used as a loco building centre. LNER 1000 is a memorable one for the 'spotters', LNER 10000 may be coming along soon!
