HR 114 1900s Luncarty

HR 114 1900s Luncarty

Highland Railway Jones 'Big Goods' class 4-6-0 No. 114. Built by Sharp, Stewart & Co. of Manchester in October 1894 and withdrawn in September 1936 as LMS No. 17927.

This is one of the finest photograps of a Jones 'Big Goods' in action, doing exactly what it was designed for. It is on Caledonian Railway metals and is heading north through Luncarty Station in Perthshire. It will rejoin the HR route at Stanley Junction a mile or two to the north. The original print from which this was restored had the left section of the image in deep gloom, so it was a surprise to discover there was a seated gentleman looking slightly warily at the photographer!
