4083 1960-09-03 Burlescombe

GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 4083 Abbotsbury Castle passes Burlescombe with the 7.35am Plymouth-Paddington (A39) on 3 September 1960.
Peter Kerslake says 5083 emerged from Swindon in May 1925, allocated initially to Old Oak Common but later spending time at Wolverhampton and Newton Abbot, its home at the date of this photograph, having gone there earlier in the same month of this view. Later 4083 moved to Exeter, but in September 1961 it went to Cardiff Canton from where it was condemned in December of that year.
