SR Sentinel Railcar 6 1941 Ashford Works
Southern Railway Sentinel Steam Railcar No. 6 in Ashford Works, Kent. Circa 1941. Built by Sentinel of Shrewsbury in 1933. Withdrawn in 1940 and scrapped in 1942. It was primarily used on the 3.5 mile Hove to Devil's Dyke branch that closed in 1938. Designed for one man operation with a driver's seat at both ends. The boiler had an automatic stoker and crusher. Seating was provided for 44 passengers, access being by single leaf sliding doors.
